It's the wedding and race day season now, so if you would you like to make your own wedding headpiece or race going fascinator to wear this summer, then take a look at this millinery course - more details in the Craft Courses link below - which I have designed designed especially for beginners. The course will give you a taster of couture millinery giving you the opportunity to create and trim your very own “button” headpiece, in the classic summer hat material of sinamay. The evening courses run in either central Newcastle NE1, or Alnwick NE67 dependant on demand, around my cosy kitchen table.
On the course you will learn the key millinery skills of how to shape, steam and block, wire, edge, and trim your sinamay headpiece. After choosing your basic shape, I will show you how to prepare your sinamay for blocking, and we will then start to explore treatment styles by getting some practice making samples. When your piece is dry, it is removed from the block, the edge is wired & finished with a bias. Then the fun part starts when you can let your imagination run riot designing and making the decoration. Once the trim is complete I will show you how to attach the fastenings to your headpiece, how to wear your button or headpiece and provide you with some aftercare tips.
Introduction to Summer Millinery Course is scheduled to run on demand, the latest dates, times and location, are detailed in the link. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in this workshop and would like more details but cannot make these dates etc.., and I will let you know of future planned workshops. Once I receive notification of your payment, I will be in touch with your joining instructions by email.
And once the summer warmth fades we move onto Autumn Millinery when felt becomes the hat fabric of choice, again you'll find more details on Craft Courses.
